I've had this coin for a very long time and the closest I'm come to a ID is either Sigisimund II or III from Riga.

AR
17mm X 1 gram
The obverse appear to have a large letter S in the center with some type of crest in the middle. The only letters of the legend that I'm able to make out are G REX PO D II.

The reverse is a shield with what appears to be the Papal key pattern withing. I'm notable to make out any legend. I think date wise this coin is prior to 1600 if not I will move it.

The date of your coin is off the flan unfortunately. The keys under cross are the arms of the City of Riga.

Here a link to a coin which might be from the same issue http://www.ma-shops.com/brom/item.p...=en&curr=EUR

Postscript:

To the best of my knowledge Riga was an independent city during the reign of Sigismund II which would make your coin an issue of Sigismund III for sure.

Thank you, I guess I was pretty close. His reign was from 1587-1632, so without a visible date the coin falls on the cusp I guess I can leave it here. Thanks again.

It's certainly more interesting to the community here than most posters on the world coin forum.
Had a quick check in my issue (17th edition) of Krause's 1601-1700. Quite some confusing data on the history of Riga there.

Was wondering what the schilling from Riga looked like between the period of the free city and Sigismund III.
What I found was that Stephan Bathory used the large S as well, but the II before ".DG" fixes yours to Sigismund III.

If you (or someone else) want to have a look at the Riga coinage in that time:
