Seller has both pegged at MS-60. Was curious to see what the community thought. Strongly considering one of these coins. I know which I prefer more, feel free to comment on both.

We'll call the first A, and the second B, since that's how he's got them listed.

Thanks for any comments in advance!

Idk if I could designate either MS (although I am admittedly a bit picky when it comes to mint designations). If I was to have my pick, I'd go with "B" because something funky is going on with the neck & NW obverse rim of "A" (although the hair lines look finer on this example). B looks as though there's some verdigris forming on the right most character of Roman numeral 3.

Both seem low end AU.

CopperCastle,

I noticed everything you did, the neck on "A" was a bit odd and concerning, as was the verdigris on the III in "B".

Thanks for chiming in on your grade. Both low end AU from you I assume. Thanks again!

IMO "A" clearly has less wear. Yes it has a couple of issues as previously mentioned, but it looks more original. "B" is cleaner but more worn. Look at the center splines on the leaves at 2 o'clock on the reverse of "A." They are visible, but the areas are flat on "B." There is also more hair detail as well, as on other devices on "A." Even with the issues on "A" I still think it's the better more original coin. B is too clean.

Sorry, but I'm not sure. Might be MS. I just noticed that there are some missing denticles on the reverse from around 6-8 o'clock, which might be from a poor strike. I still like 'A' better but might look for a better one unless the seller is giving you a really good price.

I prefer A because it has so much going on. Grease Filled Die, slightly off center strike on the obverse and the grease filled leaves on the reverse. From the pictures I believe this is a higher grade than A - the grease filled areas can be very deceiving. But with that said, I would hold out for a clean example since it appears that verdigris is starting to form on B. You can probably snag a clean, righteous 1865 3CN with a little patience.

Did you notice all the verdigris ( or so it appears ) all around the rim of B. especially on the reverse.

Thanks all. He was asking 80. Numismedia places an MS60 at $108, but I was out of my league with trying to gauge all of this so I came to the community to seek opinions.

I need to not respond when making dinner - I meant to say I preferred B because of the Grease Filled Dies.

Glad you are holding out, I think you can find a great example with a little patience.
