I just put this down and shot one photo, no lights except for the overhead fluorescent (7000K Daylight)

I tried other lighting, but it did not look as good. Comment and suggestions welcome

thats one thing I need to get me, a good copy stand. I made one out of plexiglass and its a little too flimsy and I can do better just holding the camera in hand

Like the Cent. I suspect a very, very old (liquid) cleaning.

Well....I need the locking collars underneath both setscrews; mine are somewhat worn/spread from use and don't hold well any more. So, I'm interested....

Do yours hold a camera perfectly perpendicular to the base? Mine does not, and it drives me batty to have to mount the coin at a slight angle to get a square picture. I know it's in the trapezoid camera holder; the plate behind the camera is visibly out of parallel with the pole.

Well Almost, I use a bubble level (the circular kind) to make sure the camera is on the level. left and right and north and south. It took some tweaking but it did ok. I like the other copy stand better. Mount camera and turn crank for up and down. no fuss.
I think the screw behind the pole adjusts the mount for squareness.

I played a little with the testrite and after starting with a level base, adjusting the wing screw at the back of the camera holder arm, I got this.

But, I cannot hold the camera level

I use one of these on the back of the camera, and one on the the baseboard. This assures that the baseboard and camera are on the same plane. (parallel)

SuperDave:
By locking collars do you mean these?

If so, you should be able to replace them with a piece of copper tubing with a washer and a lock washer.
OR place two nuts together about 1/2 inch from the end of the knob and use washer and lockwasher.
