2014 holiday gift at bought at the sears sale came in A couple of days ago. My cost after sale price, coupon codes, taxes, and shipping came to $7.47 a set.
The reindeer loonie is very well done, the set is pretty sparse however with the penny missing, this is understandable.... there are no pennies. I knew this when I ordered the set but the missing 50 cent piece makes this set a bit of a loser even at $7.47. Part of why I've bought the set in the past is to obtain the 50 cent piece.
The folder is pretty empty looking compared to past years, it includes just the loonie (very nice), a townie, quarter, nickel and dime. I'd be pretty unhappy if I paid $20.00 plus tax and shipping.
cheers Liverpool

I have two of these sets, the O' Canada and the Baby Gift set. I think that loonie collectors are the potential future buyers with these. With limited mintages (absolutely no idea of the numbers) it may be a target in the future for dollar collectors. But I agree, they used to contain seven coins, now five, bit of a rip.

I totally agree about the target buyer being loonie collectors, there really is nothing else of value to the set sadly. I'll hide them deep in a box somewhere so that they remain untouched for a very long time. Time can at times make anything a treasure. Perhaps a great grand child will find them while rooting around in a basement or attic some day.

Very inexpensive treasures there @Liverpool, I would be delighted with almost 1/3 cost of retail. I find the Baby sets have the most chance to appreciate. I get a 1/2 ounce coin each year, they are almost guaranteed (I got a bridge for sale ...) to go up.

"Try, please, to imagine the most possible scenario, what they will do with it." <<<<Big Smile>>>> They will most likely spend it but that's kind of cool too because then the reindeer will be released into the wild. Putting anything away for "future generations" is always an unknown. Years ago I had an apprentice who inherited around $20,000. It was not my place but I set him up with a financial councillor in hopes that he would invest at least some of it. He went out and bought a car which he wrote off in less than a year instead (cool, his choice).... Is this what his relative planned?.... who can say but I'm sure the relative felt good about leaving it to him. Life and people are both wonderfully unpredictable.

I recived my 3 packs of The Holiday set as well, and agree the Loonie is nice but the rest will end up as pocket change I think, the Toonie is actully in poor condition , many dents around the inside of the edge although it is just circulation stuff but still, poor quality.

@Northerncoins, Liverpool
I actually agree with you, just as you said - it always unknown. Might be little treasure, and could be better spend $7 with the kid in McDonalds.
Btw....keeping 1/2oz "Year of birth" coins could be nice idea.
But have you see the demand for them? Interesting, when exactly people "wake up" with the though to get these coins to the kids?

Yes @Northerncoins it is called a waffled rim error. Very common since the RCM 2012 Toonies came out with the edge lettering. It occurs when the edge lettering is too close to the edge causing the waffling.Here are more examples.https://goccf.com/t/161845Nice Loonie!

I think it has been a quality issue for too long. The error is so ubiquitous, it is more of a rarity to find one without waffling.

Really hard to counterfeit that though, all waffled up, maybe it is a signature of the RCM, Canadian waffled rim toonies. They should really just fix the issue.
Bad deal on the used edge lettering machine, should have bought the warranty.

Loonie very nice looking. The Toonie as ugly as all post-2012 $2 coins, including commemorative, like the "Wait for me Daddy"
Not only the rims.....it looks like "nickel plated" plastic round. Not even heavy and cold in hand, like the coin suppose to be. Since 2012 Toonie very rare, the best looking $2 coins are 2011.
