Not sure where this question should go, but I have been a member for a while and would like to share my massive coin and paper money collection with everyone.

However I do not have any photos of my collection, only videos which I post on Youtube. I tried posting the links to my videos before, but they were always removed by the administrators.

I guess my question is whether the rule on posting links can be updated to accommodate authentic links (such as ones directed to Youtube videos). Since posting photos on forums are allowed, I don't see why videos should be not allowed.

My channel on Youtube is called Akoin47, in case the administrators would like to check it out to make sure it is real and not just spam.

Any insight and remarks would be greatly appreciated

Thank you :)

Sorry, but those rules are there for a reason. New members are discouraged from posting links to personal web pages, including their personal YouTube channels, even if those websites are purely non-profit and informational. This is mainly because an awful lot of people join the forum, to do nothing but post links to their own websites. Such people are parasitizing the forum, and their posts are really just another form of spam. We're not here to provide a free advertising platform for other websites.

Newness isn't based purely on chronology; it's a measure of how much participation on the forum there has been. In a sense, we "reward" people who are active participants in the forum by allowing them to advertise their own websites, for free. If you wish to advertise your website without being a forum participant, you are encouraged to become a paid-up advertiser.

Not to mention it is a really, really poor idea to publicize your holdings on ebay like that. Frankly, we'd block these videos just for your protection regardless of any potential rules breach. Other people are reading this thread and we don't want them thinking we endorse the idea of posting one's collection on Youtube.

SsuperDdave: none of the coins I showcase in my videos are for sale.

Sap: I think there is a difference between advertising and sharing. I don't make any money off of people viewing my videos - that's just the way I choose to show my collection. Others like to take photos and that's fine too. I think its a little hypocritical that active people are 'rewarded' and thus get to have certain privileges while supposed 'new' members have to suffer and be banned from sharing their collections.

How is activity on these forums determined anyways? I like to browse through different threads but I don't necessarily comment on each one of them. That means I can have zero posts and yet I still would have viewed different threads and participated as an observer.

Oh, it has nothing to do with commerce - you don't strike us as that type, although they are one we're wary for as you'll understand.

It's about our hobby, and the dangers we know exist. We know people who have been robbed. We have members who know people who have been killed for their coins. So, in a general sense we strongly discourage collectors posting information about their collections - or their collecting activities - online in any social-media-exposed situation. And with YouTube's integration into Google and Facebook, it starts resembling a one-stop shopping experience for those looking to gather your personal information. Most would be surprised at how much information we leave laying around online about ourselves, little nuggets waiting to be collated into a bigger picture. If you're within reach of the (intelligent) miscreant doing it, you win a visit.

This all is as much for those reading but not posting as it is for you. Readers usually outnumber posters 10:1 and we know we're speaking to an audience.
