Hello Everyone!

I found an interesting looking Square Hole coin yesterday while metal detecting at a local beach. I've done a bunch of searching online but couldn't find any with the exact same characters. I found some that look fairly similar and seem to maybe be 1800's Chinese?

Looks like an issue from Emperor Mu T-sung (1862-1875) from Kinagsu, but somehow the style looks odd.

I will never go against Medieval as he has forgotten more than I will ever know on such coins. But I would hold out the sugestion that this very well could be a recent copy. It would explain the style looking odd.

Wait for 'manymore's comment on it.
But if you want to get really old coins, you can get coins which are more than a thousand years old for less than $10.

Thanks for the compliment, but quite often I got the feeling that I forgot more than I ever learnt.

'manymore' is probably the one, who knows more about Chinese coins than anyone else on CCF.

I'd have to agree that the style on this one looks very, very wrong. And, unless the OP has larger hands than mine, the coin is smaller and thinner than it ought to be. I'd call it a recent copy.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
