Until 2 hours ago, this medal had spent its entire life in a factory sealed cellophane envelope. Then tonight I noticed that blemishes had started to appear so I broke it out.
The first thing I saw was that the fields were covered with fine hairlines, although it had never been touched. Secondly, it was edge marked with the number 118.

Despite the colouration of the hurried photo it does seem to be gold plated. Does anyone recognise this medal and perhaps know the manufacturer or mintage?

Thanks for looking.

Apollo 11: Stirling Silver medal appears to have been supplied by a UK jeweler from Birmingham, who made a series of medals for the various Apollo missions. I also have the bronze or brass companion medal in a double case. In each case the obverse is upside down to the reverse side and they all have a outer chain of small dots (as pictured).

You would not believe how much that helps. I have around 15 other medals which are mostly identified, but that site gives a whole lot more info than I had. Many thanks.
