I couldn't think of a better title. If you can, I'll re-post the title.

I sold a certified 2007 JOHN ADAMS DOLLAR COIN MS64 ICG DOUBLE EDGE LETTERING on July 25, 2007 on ebay After 7 days & 4 reminders, I finally filed a dispute (my first) with ebay for "unpaid buyer." Within 4 hours, I was paid by buyer via Paypal on Aug. 2.

I mailed the coin the next day, Aug. 3, USPS First Class, Insured, with Signature Confirmation. It came back to me today marked "Unclaimed," with the hand-written words "NOTICE 8/8 & 8/29." Apparently they tried delivery & then left 2 notices for her to pick up at the Post Office, with no response on her part.

I've already spent $6 on shipping. The buyer apparently never bothered to pick it up. She initially apparently "spaced out" on paying until I filed a dispute for "unpaid buyer." Now this.

She doesn't respond to emails.
I want to conclude the transaction but I don't want to pay a second time for shipping without getting reimbursed.

If I just sit & wait, she may wake up, realize she never got her coin & leave me a neg. feedback.

I've only got 38 feedbacks & 100%, so I don't want to mess that up. Now what are my responsibilities as a seller? Suggestions or ideas?

Try sending it Registered, Certified, so that she personally has to sign for the item after showing ID?

Then you can say you did everything short of driving to her door to personally hand it over.

You can also provide proof of every possible attempt should she decide to dispute this again... however, there probably isn't anything you can do to protect your Feedback, except make a response should it happen :(

that's not going to be any better than what he already tried, if she isn't there to sign for it they will just leave another notice just like they did the first time and if she doesn't go to the post office to pick it up they will try to deliver it again and leave another card if she still isn't there, if she doesn't pick it up after that it will be back on its way back to the sender again and he will be right back where he is at now

All you can do at this point is wait, you fulfilled all your obligation on the transaction. You sent it, it came back unpicked up, you have the proof. If paypal tries to do a chargeback, or she leaves a negative I would contact safe harbor and let them know, with reference to her lack of communication. If a neg is left on her part, it might then be removed if you can demonstrate your issues through the transaction. An uphill battle nonetheless.

What's "Safe Harbor?"

It is their apparently now obsolescent dispute resolution area. They still have it, but it is buried under a mound of screens somewhere. Just like everything with ebay.

As the seller of the item, you can get her contact info from ebay. Her phone number should be included. I'd call her and find out what's going on. Sometimes, email is simply not enough. I would not send it again without speaking to her.

I agree with Susanlynn9. I recently had a transaction where the seller underpaid the amount due. I contacted him repeatedly by e-mail, then by phone and finally by mail. He simply refused to respond and I eventually issued a refund to his paypal account. When I filed a nonpaying bidder report, I discovered that he was no longer registered on ebay.

Provided the buyer entered correct information, it is remarkably easy to enter whatever information you care to on ebay, after the address is verified with your credit card, nobody verifies your phone number is correct.

I had someone in Scotland pay regular postage on a $300 item that had to be sent registered. I should have returned his payment, but I at the $ loss on the registered, sent it, left no feedback, and blocked him as a bidder. Funnily enough I got a positive feedback out of it, as though I might leave one afterall, I did not.

It might be a good idea to try to get a phone number. Telephone calls are harder to ignore. Other than that you seem to be in a tough spot. Perhaps she is out of town?

I've called twice to her phone number which I got from ebay. No response; it's an answering machine recording of someone's business. I left two messages, no response yet.

I really don't want to issue a refund. Since the price has dropped, the reselling amount would be significantly less. Why should I suffer a loss, because this person refuses to pick up her mail or respond to email or phone calls?

I feel like I'm stuck waiting to see if she wakes up.

Keep her money and the coin. That should get her attention. I would send her a certified letter informing her all the attempts you have done to contact her in order to pick up her item. Tell her that she can't back out of this deal and you won't give her a refund. Tell her your going to charge her an additional $x.xx because you need to resend it back to her. Once SHE contacts you, send her the coin. Good Luck!

That's what I'll do. I just hope she doesn't leave me a neg & then I'll have to go through the hassle of trying to get it removed.
