I have not seen many counter-stamped English pennies. In the first half of the 19th century it was fairly common for small business owners to counter-stamp large cents as a form of inexpensive advertising. I do not know if it was common in Europe or England. It would be interesting to learn that coins story.

It's more common than you might think. So much so that there is (although it's probably out of print) a book on the subject.
British Countermarks on Copper and Bronze Coins by James Gavin Scott, written in the latter part of the last century.

Yeah, I know that countermarks is quite common. H.Wells, might be a advertisment token, or a token with value 1 penny at H.Wells?

I know the value is probably next to nothing, but I can't seem to find any "H.Wells" with a quick google-search.
