Any guesses on this one would be great. I hope to post a few to this thread today. Thanks so much! I will send them in and let you know how close you were as well. Coin #1 Coin #2 Edited by MontanaCMR 12/21/2014 4:54 pm

It would be nice to have bigger pics and less glare on the reverses. nlp

63 and 64 respectively. Lack of luster holds the first coin back, but that could just be the pics.

Both MS-64 IMHO, I seem to have good luck with that grade!

#1 MS-63 loss of luster and too many edge ticks and spotting to go higher #2 MS-64 nice luster but bag marks and facial streaking detracts and prevents GEM status

The first one almost looks a bit dusty. Under first impression I thought a 63, but there aren't enough nicks and bumps for that. Not enough luster and too many scratches for a 65, so a 64 seems fair.
As for the second one, it seems to be an honest 63.
TPGs grade the Philly 1879 rather harshly because there are very few left in higher MS.

1st looks to be 63ish 2nd looks to be 62ish That said, Pictures here are pretty rough again and both coins could come back details. TPG can be harsh on wheel marks and when I tilt my screen, it looks like both have them on the reverse....1st is tougher to see but looks to be under the end of united and parts of states. 2nd appears more clear to me, specifically under the capital letters uNITED sTATeS... May also have another one through the middle of "ATES" in states. I may be wrong, since the pictures are tough to see, but just dont want to see anyone spend $$ on grading details coin. With Large dollars, be sure to always look hard for the wheel marks before submissions. Most coin acceptors fit up to half dollars. The wheel marks tend to be where a half dollar would fit inside the middle of a morgan.

Thanks for the feedback. I don't really understand the concept of wheel marks, but will look it up. I will send these in this week and let you know what they grade in about a month. These are from my mom so I kinda like the idea of them sitting in her safety deposit box for years, and then slabbed. The ones I have sent in have all been about MS 63 (+-1). Most probably wouldn't send in a MS 62, 63, or 64, but they are unique to me because of their history.

Coin #1: MS63 because of lackluster (could be the photos). Coin #2: MS64
