I have been scouring the posts from CCF members, and nothing on collecting original bank wrap rolls of Lincoln cents. I find that over the long haul these can be highly sort after. any other roll collectors out there ? Tony

Most knowledgeable collectors don't believe in OBW rolls, particularly if touted as Wheaties.

well I guess I'm the lone collector on this subject. a lot of my early rolls (1954-pds to 1988-pd are in plastic tubes ,some obtained that way and some removed from paper wrapping by me because I didn't want the sulfur of the paper to tarnish the choice bu pennies. (Solid Rolls). the rest of my rolls, (1989-p&d to 2014-p&d. were left as is in original paper wrapper and put into plastic nickel tubes by me. they fit perfectly . tight and no rattle. Tony

I'm sure that there are a few of you but many collectors are sceptical of finding of buying original bank wrapped rolls. The reason is because the equipment and wrappers are generally available to do the job yourself and there are scores of folks on ebay making tidy profits on unsuspecting investors. However, some respectable sources are out there and the serious collectors here have tapped into them. Getting ahead might be tough though. I can't imagine there are many legit sources out there.

I have 2 unopened rolls of the Lincoln cents (Formative Years) issued @ the 2009 public release/exchange ceremony in Lincoln Indiana. They have commemorative Lincoln stamps affixed to the rolls & postage cancelling stamps dated to coincide with the date of the ceremony. I paid $5 each for them...but I didn't have to drive to Lincoln & wait in the lines. The other 2 issues are in OGP mint rolls. I still need a "Professional Life" roll to complete the collection.

I encourage you to seek after what you like. Original bank wrapped rolls of Lincoln cents are out there. You might have to use a little trial and error in the beginning to get to know what you are buying. I collect original wrapped rolls of silver dimes, quarters, and halves and I can tell by looking at a roll right away if it's something I want. And there's still plenty of them out there, so I imagine there are tons of original Lincoln rolls out there also.

yes I know what to look for ,but it's not easy sometimes. I have gotten burnt on some e-bay buys but then again; who hasn't ? honest dealers of this type of collecting are hard to come by. Tony

I purchase OBW Lincoln Cent rolls. I have 3 -4 reliable sources. I always open the rolls, examine the coins, transfer them to Coin Safe tubes, label them and store them in an appropriate environment. Of the hundreds of rolls I've purchased, I've only been burned twice. Both times the seller (not necessarily an ebay seller) refunded my purchase money and told me to keep the coins. So, it's difficult to say I got burned. My goal is collect a BU roll of every LMC, LBC and LSC. Most rolls are relatively inexpensive. The exceptions are the 1960 SD, which cost me $80.00, and the 1970 S SD. I've never actually found a BU roll of 1970S SD's. I have to buy them a few at a time.
