Hi Everyone

My friend recently sent me a picture of his friend's collection that was given by his grandfather which consists of Greco-Phoenician, Late Roman, Byzantine and early Islamic coins. From what I've seen, they all look genuine without a doubt.

However, this "silver" coin looks fake. The Hellenic portrait feels off and the Sumerian like figures just isn't right. The words "Basileus Caesar" and "Metal" just adds more to the fake factor. I have a feeling it's 99% fake..What do you think? Is it the real deal? Has anyone of you come across something like this? Apparently it feels like silver and its heavy.

My friend, his friend and I are quite curious and ready to know the disappointing truth

Looks fake to me. Just looks "off", kind of like a brass repo.

I distinctly remember seeing just such a coin being discussed before (complete with the misspelling of "Caesar").

Can't seem to find it on the search, however.

It's safe to push this one over the line to 100% fake. The porous cast look combines with the fantasy design to shout out "fake" - I'm pretty sure no-one was ever called "Basileos Kesar", on a coin or anywhere else - The Caesars of Rome refused the title "king" (Greek Basileos) for cultural reasons and besides, their name was spelled "KAISAR" in Greek. It might look silvery in hand, but the picture has a definite brassy colour to it - a common symptom of base-metal fakes. FInally, the two reverse figures do not look "Greek" or ancient in style at all.

If there is a genuine coin upon which this is even remotely based, I am unfamiliar with it.

This category of fake is called a "fantasy," which means it is not a copy of an actual ancient type, rather a modern design with some ancient pretensions.

Exactly Sap! No one was ever Basileus Caesar! That's what made me chuckle a bit despite it's horrible design..
Thank you all for your answers! It's time break the news to my friends
