Hi I got two boxes of nickels from my bank today. They are both sealed from the mint 2012 nickels. do these have any value or should I return them?

I used to get 2012 mint rolls when I still roll hunted last year. They are common, so I don't bother keeping them as rolls. I suggest opening them and pick out the gem grade coins, return the rest.

Gem just means flawless from what I have seen.
No scratches, dings dents fingerprints etc.

Ok when I opened two rolls they all had very fine scratches when I looked at them with a 30x loupe. so I'm assuming I should just take them all back?

Shane - yes, take them back. When you CRH, you are bound to pick up boxes of solid date coins. Generally speaking, they are for the current year here in the States. There, assume it's for the last year of production. In the CRH sense, getting a solid box is a 'bust' for the majority of hunters. Some hardcore hunters will make the most of it and open several rolls in search of mint state coins. These are the highest grade business strike coins out there. If you spend some time in the Grading forum you will learn how to grade coins; what to look for and how much of a ding, scratch, blemish is allowable before dropping a grade. So in your case, dings and scratches associated with coin contact and not from circulation would normally reduce a specimen through the mint state (MS) range. High grade business strikes can bring significant money, but you have to be patient and search many coins to find the one with the fewest blemishes.

I say keep the best, return the rest. You can replace it when you find a better one.
