hi all, its been some time, I had the urge to try out an old school camera I picked up for nothing and took the lens out of it, and it really seemed to be quite sharp, noticeably better in hand than the Vivitar 75mm LU I have...it measures about 25mm for the thread size on the lens,, any Ideas for an adapter to 39 or 42mm? IF not I do have confabulations skills and some epoxy Thanks and HAPPY holidays, and new year to all of you in this community...Gene

"Back in the USSR" My apologies for the musical reference. If your sure that it is M25 then try this supplier. I get most of my oddball adapters from him. Although the items are sold postage free its actually incorporated into the price of each item and in reality that postage isn't cheap. I only had one problem once when the item took forever to arrive. The seller was very surprised at how long it took and was in the process of refunding me when it finally arrived. The adapters are good quality so justifying the cost: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/RafCamera/...4634.c0.m322

What camera did it come from? Argus used more than one mount on its' cameras.

Yeah, Argus made a number of differing rangefinders. In the 30's through the 60's, they were big in America. Their Model C was so popular - over two million sold - it's sometimes given credit for solidifying 35mm as the standard film size. However, they used differing threads on differing cameras. They were notorious for model incompatibility. So we need to know which model it is.

Well, my research indicates that Argus cameras did not have interchangeable lenses. They were removable for servicing only andd used a bayonet mount, not threads. Some owners had them modified for interchangeable lenses. Yours must be one, and at roughly 1" diameter you're probably looking at a C-Mount.

I am intrigued; I understood that Aladinslamp took the lens off an Argus camera.

Yes I took the 4 scews off the face of the camera and the whole focusing and lens assembly came off and I had to separate the helicoil focusing unit to take the lens out from that assembly. I'll have to take a quick photo later and let you all see it...I don't have a shutter release for it so I just popped a pen in the side of full open the apeture,, its a real magnafier for its size!!

Well finally I got the lens adapter that you all thought it might be, but it seams its a real oddball, as the lens is actually within a housing like a heilcoil assembly, so one can move the lens in and out to attain focus, but its not like the C mount 25mm thread, however a little inGENEuity, and some super glue let me mount it into the C mount EOS adapter...a couple of drops of super glue to stick it to the C/mount to EOS adapter I am using a 13mm adapter so that the lens is the correct distance from the sensor to get a full shot of a silver dollar, as you know it varies. I also am shooting a dmpl coin so its a very difficult shot to take with the high reflectivity,, and I'm trying a "new technique",as I still need to really work on lighting, but for giggles I will post these shots with the old ARGUS lens.... much to work on, but I did notice while setting up with something in the way between the light source, "true/actual" looks of the coin can be seen to some extent but getting it onto a photo is quite a task..
