First off Happy New Year everybody

These two coins caught my eye. They are both of Aelius Caesar(136-137) the intended heir to Emperor Hadrian. Unfortunately Aelius died very shortly afterword and Hadrian was forced to pick Antoninus Pius( although he was not known as Pius yet)

Aside from my addiction to Roman history what is your opinion on these two coins as far as authenticity, and a "Just Price".

Coin 1
Aelius-Caesar-Denarii.

Coin 2
Aelius-Caesar-Denarii.

Happy New Year to you also. Not having any of his coins I think they are both very nice. We haven't seen very many from him here so it's nice to seen these two. Condition wise I think the first coin is better because it has most of it's legend.

The seller who is offering these would agree with you Echizento . He has the first coin marked $45 above coin 2.

Very nice! Coins of Aelius are certainly not plentiful and those a wonderful examples. Interesting how he looks like Hadrian on the first coin. Perhaps the engraver had not yet seen the man.

That's a big jump in price. If you don't mind saying. What is he asking for them?

Tf that is probably correct. Aelius was on the frontiers ( Danube maybe) and had not yet met to address the Senate in Rome ,by the time he arrived in Rome 137 he died of a hemorrhage. Very similar to why early issues of Trajan look just like Nerva.

Coin 1 Said he would go to $190 - so a $35 difference.
Coin 2 $155

His coins don't sell cheap, so I guess the price is within normal range.

Nice coins - personally would opt for number 2, just because the portrait is better for him.

Compared to the rest of Vcoins they are a godsend . I think the average price for one of these on vcoins is in the $300's, it's rather outrageous .

I think that both of these coins are genuine.

Check them for weight.
Although the details are a bit mushy and the fields a bit lumpy, that can suggest 'copy', I do not think that is the case here, but is the result of wear.

Supporting 'genuine' is the charcater of the radial edge cracks. Have a look inside those cracks with a high powered loupe, and examine for a tearing type of metal distress. The cracks would have been formed as the coins were struck.
Not even high quality pressure casting can reproduce the metal detail inside a genuine crack.

If you still have any doubts, take them to a bullion dealer and have them XRF'ed, checking for trace metals other than silver. The ancients knew nothing of eletrolytic silver refining.

A 'no brainer' - the first one!
Why?
The legends are more complete.

You need to play more 'Guess the Emperor' -> https://goccf.com/t/192342&whichpage=42

But whichever 'Augustus Maximus' chooses will be far better.
