Happy New Year all!

I have been looking for the "No Stars" varieties of the Half Dime and Dime and I almost pulled the trigger on this one. The color is nice and so is the condition, but the mark (scrape?) on the right thigh gave me pause. I asked the seller about it and she stated that it was a "continuation of the pole". I have been looking for quite some time and I reviewed a lot of "No Stars" Half Dimes and I have yet seen a pole in front of Liberty (regular issue anyway) it has been resting behind her.

The LIBERTY scroll across the shield is kinda wavy as well. It is a problem free PCGS holder and CAC approved. Perhaps they had a bad day and overlooked the leg, or would it be considered acceptable?

What does the CCF Members think about this? PMD?

Thank you for your interest!

Beautiful coin. If it's going to remain in your collection, then yeah, wait for one you'll be happy with. Still gorgeous to me though and in a nice holder to boot. The "continuation of the pole" answer is pretty funny. I wonder if she had that answer planned or if it was off the cuff.

The coin has a large gouge on the knee and a crease in LIBERTY. A beautiful coin with fatal flaws, IMO, especially for the money being asked because of the grade, whatever it is. It's $500+ in 62 and I'm not paying that for a large gouge in the physical center of the coin.

Continuation of the pole? An answer like that means the seller is less than honest.

"Less than honest"? I don't think so, just an uniformed individual who is trying to answer email traffic during the holidays maybe. I suggested to her that if there was a Seated Liberty specialist available within their company to take a look at the coin and verify the PMD and if so to add that to the description.

I have not heard back from her since.

What SuperDave said. But nonetheless I do love the appearance of the coin otherwise, and I love the issue for its simple, uncluttered obverse fields that remind me of an old-time cameo (not in the numismatic but jewelry/brooch sense).

Best Regards,

George
