Been informed it is rare. Opinion on value?

An Oceanic country actually issued a coin related to Oceania? You bet that's rare!!

But seriously, I have always been interested in the former German colonial empire, so this is a really neat coin for me. NGC says that this coin is made out of silver and is worth $35, but yours is at least gold-coloured. (probably plated, but who knows?) And compared to the usual colourized, enameled, bejeweled, funny-shaped novelty crap put out by countries like Palau, this coin is amazingly on-topic and attractive. (Palau was indeed once part of the German Empire, but it was administered under German New Guinea, not German Samoa. Still...)

I would guess it is not plated--saw this:

This coin, and the others in the series, were struck in commemoration of the acquisition of Palau by the German Empire from the Spanish Empire in 1899.

Thank you. Yes, I saw the palladium release, but have never come across the gold one

It goes to show you...there are STILL unknown coins from the Modern Era. Oddly enough, this one DID get graded, and thusly should be somewhere...

Try inputting the certification number http://www.ngccoin.com/certlookup/ (Your flash obliterates a few numbers)
