I have a very old coin I am trying to identify. If you have any ideas what it could be please let me know. It is about the thickness of a US penny and a tad larger. Looks hand cut. Thanks!

Welcome!
The two X's with a small cross above suggest a half follis of the Byzantine Empire. The small Roman numeral to the right is the regnal year (2) of the emperor. I bet with a little effort, we can come up with both the emperor and the mint.

Hello and welcome.

You can't see any details on the obverse at all, but I'd agree it's a Byzantine half-follis. I'd also suggest Kyzicus mintmark (KYZA) and, given the use of Roman numerals "XX" rather than Greek numeral "K", I'd suggest emperor Phocas as the likely issuer. This Wildwinds page lists coins of Phocas; scroll down to the one labelled "SB 670" - the one with the regnal date included.

Year 2 of Phocas would roughly correlate to AD 603.

Other has ID the reverse, but done to the lack of obverse detail its difficult to say who it might be. It might be Phocas (Focas). Based on the lack of obverse detail I can't say who it is. If you can make out any part of the legend it might help. It should look similar to this DN FOCAS PP AVG
