I found this early 2014, it is a 1952 penny missing a couple letters. I think this is a filled in die.

A weak strike wouldn't cause only a few letters to be missing. The strike would be weak on the whole coin.

None of the surface around the missing letters is affected so I still believe its a filled in die. Maybe the letters of the die were filled with grease. Visually a cool error, don't need a mag glass to see it.
