Welcome to Coin Community, aeliza. There are as many ways to safely store Proofs as there are opinions. Albums are a perfectly good choice - a good way to do a set of Lincoln Proofs, for instance. Generally, if your Proof comes singly with its' own packaging, from a value standpoint you'll want to preserve that packaging. There are also various types of individual holders like Airtites, Intercept Shields and Coin Edge holders (which I'm a real fan of because they show the rim) and each of those have albums designed to hold them.

Plenty of choices.

I've been putting Proofs in my Whitman Albums for as long as I can remember. No problems of any kind at all. I keep most of my Albums in Zip Lock Plastic bags.

This reminds me - putting Proofs into albums is one place I actually recommend the use of cotton gloves, as you may end up having to put a bit of pressure on the coin's surface to squeeze it in. Still use only a fingernail to push rather than the pad of your finger, and put the force onto a device rather than the fields, which on a Proof will mar very easily.

thanks for the tips. I always use gloves (if only I could get my dad to). and my proof silver eagles are in the original packaging. I did not realize they made albums for the coin edge holders. may need to look into those.

2x2 flips, like everything else, unless their packaging adds value.

Dave- what circumstances do you not recommend using cotton gloves (out of curiosity).

I've put all of my proofs from 1956-date into my Dansco albums. The only sets not in the albums are my 1954 & 1955 proof sets. Both sets have real nice toning and I want to display them as a set so they are in a 5 coin snap case.

CL_ .. when you don't have to handle a raw coin you don't need gloves..

any other time, you should use them.
