I imagine many of you have had your eyes on that coin that seemed just out of reach all year, or the beautiful toner you've been drooling over @ the LCS. Maybe you're considering adding Gold/Silver to your portfolio this tax season? New photography equipment? Sending off that diamond tucked away in a binder to a TPG...Maybe tossing & turning over that seemingly impossible hole to fill in your Dansco. Perhaps you're gonna take advantage of most people having a little extra income to trim down your own collection. (Or maybe you're just saving up for a vacation, or perhaps a new TV.) Do you have any numismatic ambitions for your 2014 tax refund? I'm currently researching usb microscopes for Cent variety photography, considering a Carson City GSA or maybe... just maybe (finally) getting my hands on my first US gold coin. Inquiring minds want to know! What are your numismatic plans this tax season. Edited by CopperCastle 01/11/2015 11:50 am

Student loans.....
You know what is great for cent varieties, an ophthalmoscope. You can't take pictures with it but any cent guy can benefit greatly from one.

Quote: New car for my fiancé Buttering her up for when you bring home that VDB-S with a "missing" receipt? I kid, but it's never a bad idea to start the year by being in your significant others good graces when you're a coin collector.

Quote:i believe I will be splurging and finishing up my Washington quarter album with a 1932-S That's awesome. This key date is a challenge to find with decent details on a budget. I watched a VF-details designation get bid upto $75 recently, and it wasn't even that pretty.

More paper money! Maybe some 1930's MS66FB Mercs too, but my currency want list still comes first.

Either build the emergency fund up a little more or kick it at the last student loan...

I never could figure out why anyone would want or plan on a tax refund. The way I've always looked at taxes is why let the government hold your money with no interest. Why not just hand your money to someone and ask them to hold it for you free. Same thing. Every year I attempt to owe the government at the end of the year. I know it's hard for most to do that but I just can't see letting someone hold my money for me FREE.

Quote: I'll pay some again this year. I gave in to the wife saying how come we never get a refund so and so got $$$$. I agree with you the above statements pointless to give an interest free loan for a year. We did get a little help with the new little one this year.

Some have targets for their tax refunds.
For me, the priorities are always that credit card debts have to be discharged, bills to be paid and food still has to be put on the the table. If I have discretionary money after this, then it's always OK to buy coins.

Quote: I never could figure out why anyone would want or plan on a tax refund. I had my 1st job @ age 14 (sorting library books & putting them back on the shelves). I'm just used to it I guess. About 10 years ago I was a painter (subcontracted) for prefabricated houses & no taxes were deducted as I just signed a ledger & was paid in cash. That year I got my first (and only) 1099...I owed thousands of dollars. It took me about 3 years to chip it away. I never want that feeling EVER AGAIN. This year I'm receiving about $6k (give or take) the first week of February. I like that feeling a lot better.

Not a very large amount but I'm tentatively budgeting half going into savings and the other half going into coins/silver. Had the same allocation last year but somehow it all went to coins!
