VF30. I won't be surprised if we debate VF35. I would love to have this one in my collection. You should now visit this site and try to attribute and enjoy the real pleasures of numismatics. http://www.byronreed.com/byrons_col..._bust_dimes/Have fun!

I am surprised we're debating VF20 vs VF30. I just looked at a slew of coins in HA archives for 1834 and other dates in the series and I do not see how this coin would make VF20 unless it is considered a net grade due to environmental damage. At first glance and (unedited) comment, I had thought choice surfaces but I could see how some might consider them too dark and crusty. I think that might be a matter of taste and subjective. And although grading is subjective, I cannot see the technical merits of designating this a VF20 coin.

Personally I find the eye appeal of this coin to be quite nice. It's a keeper. CBDs of this grade and originality aren't too plentiful on ebay.

So you think this coin would not even be gradable?

It's hard to call from these images - there isn't really enough contrast to form solid opinions. You can see LIBERTY is still clear, keeping me from going as low as F12ish, yet the top of the shield is pretty much gone which keeps me from leaving the Fine range with it. Then you have to blend in the "small factor" for a Dime, the degree of faithfulness which such a small die can keep to the family design language. That has a direct bearing on how you apply the "usual" grading rules for Capped coinage. Maybe a little more liberal.
Too little data either way.

If I could get it for 75, would that be a bad investment?
