This morning I viewed an 1840 Seated dollar that was clearly counterfeit (w/reverse motto). The opening bid was $500.00. The seller was a new member with only 4 sales. I reported the item to ebay using the link at the bottom of the listing page.
My question to the group is this: Does ebay do anything about these people, or do they look the other way? Am I wasting my time by reporting these items? I want to know, as I will continue to report these items as I see them if ebay acts as they should. I am sure many of you have some experience with this situation. Thanks!

ebay disbanded their Community Coin Watch group a few months back, effectively turning the place over to the counterfeiters. The reaction hasn't been pleasant for them, and people like you are part of the reason why.

They are working towards a better solution. We (CCF) are working directly with them on this effort. Yes, keep reporting everything you're sure of. Preferably link it here first so we can put it in front of many eyes and reach a consensus opinion. You can assume some of those eyes might be employed by ebay.

Doesn't mean every coin will be removed in minutes. Not yet. But we're getting there and every piece of evidence the CCF membership can offer is evidence which punches above its' weight.

Just stay away from those coins. That's what I do.

reports to the link contained in the auction go to the end of the line and finally work there way up to the head of the line for review in a week or two. Of course by then the auction is long over. It was much better when the CCW was still around. A proper documented report could get an auction pulled in just a couple hours.
