Poll Question
Why not get rid of the nickel instead of the penny? I love pennies. Everybody loves pennies... right?

How many adds do we see on auction sites for junk silver with big bold letters stating "No Nickels"? And why do we think those people advertise that no nickels are included? Hmm...

Does anyone really care about nickels? Does anyone really like the new design?

Getting rid of the nickel would cause no confusion with how items should be priced either. We wouldn't have to switch to some weird system where everything would have to be priced in multiples of 5 or 10 cents.

I say keep the penny, and down with the nickel!

Do you agree?

Poll Choices
Yes. Get rid of the nickel, and keep the penny.
No, Get rid of the penny, and keep the nickel.

Jefferson would not have liked the nickel, nor being on it. lets put an end to his humiliation after his death and honor him with removed the "red-haired step child" coins from the decimal coinage system. (Im looking at you too quarter, because without the nickel nobody needs you!)

If you get rid of the nickel, the quarter is almost mathematically-required to go, or get replaced by a 20 cent coin.

When is the last time you saw a $25 bill?

The quarter doesn't have to go. 5 pennies will make up any difference.

I don't like the new nickel design but that doesn't mean we need to get rid of it. As far as the cent it is actually one of the four denominations so it's not going anywhere any time soon. I say keep them both.

Well, ever since jr high I've been hearing all this talk about doing away with the penny, but now I'm a penny collector, so that's why I say we should pick on the nickel instead.

But... just a few hours ago, it dawned on me. If the penny gets killed, maybe the value of my collection will skyrocket!

There are only what, a few hundred billion in circulation?

Let's get rid of money, just like what our favorite author Carl Marx wanted.

The 1/2 cent was eliminated when it was worth about 11 cents modern money because it was "too small." :-)

All we need are $1, $2, 50c and 10c coins. Make the 50c smaller and octagonal. Round to tens and get rid of the 25c, 5c and 1c coins. The idea is to make cash transactions fast and easy, to benefit commerce. There should also be a significant tactile difference between the four coins for the visually impaired.

I could add it.

And we survived! Imagine that!

I would vote for this option. Just saying.

Yes we can. At least for circulation.

I fully support keeping the cent as NIFC. Make it bronze, put it in the annual sets, and charge a premium for bags/rolls. Just like the mint has done with the half dollar the last 14 years.
