Thanks for the favorable comments. That 1830 one of my better specimens; an e-buy a few years back. I missed yesterday for lack of anything dated 1831..  |

Probably quite a good chance that they may have been distributed by George IV (not III!), as the Maundy coins from 1822 to 1893 were struck in quite small numbers, as they are today. Between 1893 and 1908 far more were struck and they could be ordered by collectors, but King Edward VII ordered this practice to stop. |

I remember reading somewhere that the later farthings (Victoria's Old Head to the end of WW1) were treated with sulfuric acid to tarnish them and prevent confusion with half-sovereigns.
I didn't know that the older, George IV coins were that much larger- that farthing's a really neat example!
