For this evening - a 1947 British penny under King George VI. I'm 3/4 of the way through completing a date/mm set of circulated British large pennies from the 20th century. Living in the U.S, especially in the mid-South, it is a tad difficult to find these in great condition - I'm not going to let that get me down - my set is intended to be somewhat circulated - I think it reflects the true history that these coins have been through. I hope to present you with images of my modest collection through this thread - if I don't get beat by NumisRob (btw, I throughly enjoy your images of UK coins, NumisRob - so much character in each of your coins - and everyone's)

With that lengthy preface...

1946 English (left) and Scottish (right) shillings. These were the last British shillings made of silver. Separate Scottish shillings - said to have been introduced as a tribute to the Queen Mother, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon - were issued from 1937 to 1966 (and as proofs in the final pre-decimal proof set in 1970).

That is a weird denomination, do you know anything about the history of it, I'm assuming there must have been some reason for making coins in that denomination.
