I understand some folks are getting bored with this forum on dug coins, so let me start with an oldie which should challenge us all. Here is a coin weight dug up at an early site in Maryland some time ago, that I never did fully identify. It has a Roman numeral XXXIII, the letter S and much detail from the English Coat of Arms, all of which are clues as to which particular coin this weight is supposed to equal. Name that coin!

A challenging search but my information was taken from this link:

http://finds.org.uk/news/theyworkfo.../COIN+WEIGHT

"A Post Medieval copper alloy square coin weight for a rose ryal of James I dating 1603-1625. In 1612 the rose ryal value was increased from thirty to thirty-three shillings, this coin weight is to check the weight of the revalued ryals. Obverse: a shield of royal arms within a rose Reverse: XXXIII with crown above and 's' below. Dimensions: length: 20.31mm; width: 20.73mm; thickness: 4.36mm; weight: 13.34g."

Thanks for a quick and impressive reply regarding the King James Rose-Ryal Second Coinage, raised from thirty to thirty-three shillings from 1612-1619 being the intended regal coin this dug coin weight was intended to 'suss out. So the weight would have been needed during the time that old and new rose ryals circulated before the twenty-shilling Unite of Charles I drove them out. I had guessed it depicted a coin after unification and before the English civil war. I would then estimate the weight to have been included in a high quality set by politically motivated settlers leaving England for Maryland during the time of Cromwell. It would be contemporary with Lord Baltimore shillings. Neat!

This site provides a little additional information about the 33 shilling Rose-Ryal, the 2nd type. It is interesting to note that modern forgeries are known to exist. Not really surprising, though, as one sold at auction in England in 2013 for UKp15,000.00!
