Okay so maybe this isn't the rarest coin I have ever bought, nor the cheapest, but as the story goes, this one will be ending soon. Once a mighty expensive piece (see ebay), these are now decent buys. Only good for novelty, but hey, you have to spend a little on some neat items now and then.

Not too bad for $15 I figure any coin bought for half of the slabbing fee cannot be too bad

I always thought one would make a nice addition to the collection but would never pay those outrages prices before. Are these readily available?

Those are cool- I'd love to have one myself. If only to say that I have it, ya know? I didn't realize that they had come down so much in price. Rachel [:p]

These retail near $70 today. A far cry from the early prices seen on ebay. According to the Mint, these will no longer be available for purchase. (who really knows). They were readily available at the Baltimore show from $30 to $50. I was fortunate enough to "know" the dealer who was selling these. I picked this one up at $15. If you can pick one up for under $50 I think that it is a good deal. If this is actually the last "waffle" coin, you will be very happy that you did.

Looks a bit stale to me. I am not sure that the syrup would soak in.

Waffled coins are basically U.S. Mint trash. Any coin that does not make it through the riddler machines or quality control features are mangled into waffled coins. The reason is that once the coins are waffled, the Mint does not have to pay to secure the trash as it is hauled away. The company in charge of hauling the trash decided to sell these mangled quarters. Originally they fetched near a grand. Today $50

Thank you ND, I was wondering why they're sold if they're cancelled.
