Newkirk76 New Member United States 4 Posts	Posted 01/25/2015 3:01 pm Hey guys, just joined the forum. I've had this coin for a long time and it usually sits in the junk drawer. I'm just curious about it. I googled it and it looks like an Athenian owl coin. I assume it's a fake because I'm never that lucky haha. It has a man on the front with a helmet and an owl on the back with AOE also. My ? Is how can I tell a fake? I suspect that you are also correct that yours is a copy--genuine coins are not especially rare, but are quite expensive due to their popularity. Genuine coins tend to start at about $1,000 and go up from there. As for determining it's authenticity, weight and size measurements are a must. Most tourist copies are made of cheap metal which is of course a dead giveaway. Yours is considerably lacking in detail compared to most genuine specimens, which is a big red flag.
