This was a very common occurrence especially on the first 1982 copper plated zinc cents. What caused this was gas that got trapped between the copper plating and the zinc, and it bubbled when the coins were struck as a result from the heat generated by the striking. The mint tried to correct the problem right away, but this was still happening even on some of the early 1990's cents.

Of course you could have just discovered a new Disease. Lets call it Lincolnpox. Or there is a chance your coins were done in a new finish called sandblast.
For real as already noted, gas bubbles. The first new type cents had tons of errors like that. Truely common but still sell at coin shows as error coins. Keep as many as you can for now. Might start a new type collection.

Gas bubbles can also occur when an acetylene torch is placed near a Lincoln Cent. The extreme heat causes the metals to break down, giving the Lincoln Cent a bubbled affect.
