I have found 2 steelies. 1 in a box and it was pretty dirty so it wasn't obviously steel. And for the second, i'd have to check my notes of where I found it but I think it was a coinstar or something like that.

I found one in a box yesterday in fact. 1943-D. It's dark and circulated, but not terribly corroded. Someone's collection must have been dumped, because there were were nearly a dozen wheats (oldest 1919) in just the few rolls I opened.

I found two on the same day. I suspect that they were put back into circulation not long before I picked them up because they looked so different from all other pennies.

My wife while working as a teller brought home 2 solid customer rolls of steelies.

Just picking them out of my registers I'd say I find one per 10 rolls. Maybe less common than that. Wheaties by comparison average one per roll.

Really 1 per 10 rolls and Wheats 1 per roll? Those are awesome numbers.

Thinking about it maybe my numbers were scewd since I had just found one the other day. I have found 6 or so in the last year so maybe more like 1 per 20 or 30 rolls. It fluctuates based on whether the bank has gotten fresh rolls or not. My bank tends to go for long stretches with customer rolls or machine rerolls, probably since they have coin machines at their branches.

I've gotten one and it is so rusted I could barely tell it was a steelie. Your chances of finding one in a box are VERY low.

And if you should be so lucky, it will likely be so rusted/corroded that you're not going to want it in your set.

As already noted most banks and similar organizations have magnetic devices that pull such coins out. So your chances of finding any today are getting very rare.

Found one in a bag of pennies off the coin machine.

The magnets don't get them all.
