I just started coin roll hunting a couple of weeks ago, and decided that nickels would be my focus, and I would try complete a 38 to 60 set of jeffersons. I have searched 12800 coins and had 3 buffalos (only 1 with date), and 2 war silvers - which had been my highlights ... Until last night, I saw the 1950 and got excited and then flipped it over and there was the 'd'.... 24 coins to go to complete the set... Being new to the hunt, I am unsure of a grade (and don't have the technical ability to post a pic), but I would say it was in pretty good shape.

Welcome newtothehunt, Coin roll searchers can learn to grade, at least at the beginning, by keeping a roll or two of coins and separating them by wear. "This one is bad, this one better, this one better still..." In doing so you will train your eyes as to what details can be seen. This is called a "Grading Set" and has been used by collectors for a long time. With Jefferson nickels maybe a dozen to 15 will suffice. The goal is to notice the gradual differences in wear pattern. Be it from lowest to highest grade or the reverse, it is certain to make any grading guide easier to understand. I never found a 50-D Nickel in circulation so I congratulate you on your early success!

Congrats on that awesome find. most CRH never come across a 50-D Jefferson. I find that grading the Jeff's are a little difficult in circ. condition . their easier to grade in uncirculated cond. Tony

Congratulations on a great find. I recenty completed my Jeffeson nickel set from circulation, I took almost 7 years to do. The 50d was one of the first keys I found so I thought that it was going to be easy, I was wrong! It sure is nice though tohave the tough one under you belt. Good luck in your quest, have fun with it too!

newtothehunt,
My son and I have done a few hundred boxes and only found one 1950d and that was probably after 300 boxes.
Congradulations!
