Hello! I'm in Toronto, Ontario, and wondering if anyone here, in Canada or the US, has gotten silver dollars from the bank. I went to four banks today asking if they had any fifty cent pieces or large dollars. I was there mainly for buying rolls of dimes. Bank 1: Nothing Bank 2: Nothing Bank 3: 17$ in large nickel dollars from 1968-1976, plus 3$ in fifty cent pieces from 1969-1982. Bank 4: Nothing So, anyways, has anyone here ever found silver dollars at the bank? (Canadian pre-1968 voyageurs, Morgans, Peace dollars, ect.) And has anyone in Canada ever found silver fifty cent pieces at the bank? -Owen

I have found small batches of nickel dollars a couple of times and a bunch of nickel halves once. I have never gotten any silver dollars but I did get a 1967 half once.

Same here for me just the nickel not silver, three times for around sixty dollars worth. I kept the commemorative and good condition ones and dumped the rest.

Have gotten a few silver dollars at banks - at least 1 peace and two Morgan's. saw another Morgan but the teller snatched it and wouldn't sell to me. I didn't raise a ruckus about it.

In all my years of roll hunting I've never scored a silver dollar. The tellers have, some scoring dozens at a time.
When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors... Roll hunting since '77 Dirt fishing since '72

While I haven't found any large dollars in the past three years or so (mostly due to less hunting), I do remember finding approximately 400 Ikes back during my 2004-07 searching peak, including a 1971-S 40% Silver, a 1921 Morgan, and a 1927 Peace dollar. Good luck finding these as a relatively small mintage of these were made, with calling various banks the best solution. It is still worth doing since an Ike usually sells for around $1.30 each on ebay and a roll's worth is a good $6 profit there. I'm still proud of finding the second lowest minted Peace dollar via hunting!

Well, then I guess I found the hoard, I have found 18 silver dollars, and over 30 silver 50 cent pieces. Including a sterling silver dollar from the 90's.
one time I even come across a 50 cent blue binder with 18 silvers inside, the tellers did not know anything about them.
This is all over the past year or so, and no I will not tell you which banks I frequent ;)

I frequent 5 different banks. I've been asking for large dollar coins and half dollars for a long time now. Way, way back used to get lots of them but for years now, nothing at all. One bank told me they were ordered to take any in and send to the Federal Reserve.

When I first learned about coin roll hunting (two months ago? lol) I went right to the bank, asked for half dollars, and found two 90% Kennedy half dollars and 6-7 40 percenters. I tried the one dollar coins but only find the Ikes. I was actually told by Bank of America that as soon as they get large one dollar coins they are "shipped off".

Lately all I can find at my bank is Presidential dollars and perhaps a bicentennial half or two. Doesn't keep me from asking. I've gotten 1 Ike and a handful of SBAs too, but that's a rarity.

picked up 2 large dollars today, both 1972. The guy I got them from was the same guy who forked over a 1925 Peace dollar last year. I must admit, I got a bit excited for a moment. But nothing to wild today.

Are SBAs difficult to find these days?

Remember our USA friends, that in Canada the "Silver" Dollar has not been made for circulation since 1986 (not actual silver but nickel) and the fifty cent around the same time. to even find a bank that has any of these dollars or fifty cent pieces is rare.
only when someone brings them in from someones collection will there be any.
So for us up here in Canada its exponentially harder to find actual silver dollars or fifty cents.

I have scored a 1964 Canada dollar and a 1995 ASE at my bank in the US where I work as a teller. Both were about a year ago. Otherwise mostly clad Ikes and Kennedy halves, with a few 40% halves and exactly 2 90% Kennedy's.
