I had an older ANACS holder for my Liberty nickel designated Breen-2564 that I wanted to get reholdered and have them change the designation to the FS 05-014.5 number since they are the same (advice I got through the board here). Just got it back today the only thing it says is "repunched date". I am not very happy with that! I plan on calling them monday, I should cool off a little before then. So do you think they will fix it for free or blow me off? Edited by Brkdnc 09/27/2007 7:34 pm

Did you send this coin in in the old holder ?
If you did then they should have to fix it right IMO.

I have no idea why they would do that even though I have never sent anything personally to ANACS allot of others here have and I don't remember ever seeing this problem, at the very least they should have labeled it just as they did the first time if nothing else

It was sent in, in the old holder and I had e-mailed them before hand to see if they would change it to the FS # they said it was no problem as long as they were the same just to make a note of it in the variety box on the form.
I could of even lived with it if they would of used the Breen # again but this really stinks.

I would love to know why they did that. Let them know how furious you are.

So, did you contact them? Also, can you give us a review on the new ANACS holder?

I tried to contact them, The lady I needed to talk to wasn't in today, I am going to try again tomorrow when I get a break at work to call. But even the lady I talked to from customer service thought it was a little strange at what happened. The holder seems nice but I don't have an older "new style" holder to compare it to.

I talked to Tracy today and it comes down to a sorry your out of luck, here have a coupon for a free submission.
I am still hot under the collar about this. I can see if it was a label error like a wrong date or denomination typo or something like that they wouldn't cover it and try and give you a little something to make it right.
But this was an authentication error, how can it not be the same variety that is was before? Obviously a label error would have been listed like a repunched date when it should of been listed as a Breen-2564 not the other way around.
So now I am screwed out of the premium I paid for the coin, It's still a nice coin but I wouldn't have bought if it if was just a repunched date.
I really think they should of handled this better, I know it would have been asking a lot but I think they should of tried to find a coin to replace the one they misidentified.
Now the question I have is do you think I should e-mail there customer service a link to this posting and see if it makes it up the chain and see if they come up with another solution?

I would look into there guarantee policy, because they might have something about it. They should at least pay you the fair market difference between the two. If you still want to continue with this matter, I wouldn't take the free grading coupon from them, because they can say that the matter was resolved when you accepted it and then they won't bother with you. I would still pursue it.

I had dealings with ANACS up until a year ago and I finally realized to call them for info was a waste of time, and I was talking personally to the president and COO ( at the time I thought that meant Chief Operations Officer, only to find out it was only short for coo-coo. I do not deal with them any more. I would guess you will get no satisfaction.

They probably decided to just call it a repunched date because it was not actually an overdate (which is what the Breen 2564 claims to be.) but it doesn't match the specific variety listed in Cherrypickers. So it is just another repunched date. There is a fair chance it was misattributed the first time they graded it, BUT, surprise most of the TPG guarantees DO NOT cover attributions. PCGS just recently (past six months) extended their guarantee to cover attributions. (Heck, until they made that recent change they didn't even guarantee, in writing, the authenticity either. I haven't checked lately but I believe they may still be the only one of the big four that does. On the other hand, many of the smaller firms DO guarantee the authenticity in writing, but don't guarantee the grades.) So they are probably right, you're out of luck.

when James Taylor ran the show the customer service was excellent...problem is that there really is no one at the helm making quality decisions about what the future should bring...and that is no offense to the currrent top officier, she just has too much on her plate IMHO
