I'm planning to ship 11 coins to an auction house and 13 coins to PCGS. All of the coins have been placed in 2.5" x 2.5" mylar flips. I purchased some cardboard boxes off of the PCGS website...info on the box size says it "Holds up to 20 coins in 2 ½″ x 2 ½″ mylar flips". I figured I would use one of those boxes for the auction house and one for PCGS, and fill the empty space with paper or bubblewrap. But I'm confused...the boxes seem huge. "Up to 20 coins"? It looks like each box can hold 100 or so coins in mylar flips. Are they expecting that you separate each flip with cardboard or something?

I'm planning to send USPS Registered and Insured...any other specifics you would recommend? Thanks.

This is the box I'm talking about:

I did find this page about how to pack coins for PCGS:

Thoughts?

The box does seem somewhat large for 20 coins in flips. Of course it does leave you plenty of room for padding between flips.

Registered with proper declared value is the safest way to ship them. It is slower, but safe and over about $1K in declared value it is also cheaper than other methods. Registered can also be protected for higher values. Up to $25K. Other USPS methods only go up to $5K and carriers like UPS or FedEx max out at $1K.
