And here is the Commodus sestertius which I bought together with my Nero Dupondius:

Commodus Æ Sestertius. 181-182 AD. M COMMODVS ANTONINVS AVG, laureate head right, slight drapery on far shoulder / PROV DEOR TR P VI IMP IV COS III P P S-C, Providentia standing left, holding wand over globe & staff. RIC 312

@DG I would say the majority were a good lot who did some bad things. Most Emperors did not intentionally try to screw up the government . If I remember correctly, Commodus and his Praetorian Prefect appointed and dismissed 25 men to be Consuls in one year to try to destabilize the government .

Med. Sounds like the history of humanity with the haves and have not's
There is a big difference though Med. with an autocrat such as Domitian and a man who thinks he is the reincarnation of Hercules and clubs cripples to death in the amphitheater.

In the late Empire you are spot on . High tax rates , oppression from religious fanatics (RIP Hypatia) Ect
