Sorry about the mass posting (again) but I bought these at my local coin shop for cheap. Can you tell me anything about them?

Here's a one Peso note from the same series. A bit of history. These notes were printed before the Spanish American war in 1898. Cuba was still a Spanish territory then. This war was the one that gave the US the territories of Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Phillipines (So named for Spain's King Philip II)

Issued before the Spanish-American War, while Cuba was still a Spanish colony. Never seen one of these before, either. Neat!

Edit: EK beat me to it. Gotta type faster...

Hehe! Sorry Sap.

Did a bit of poking around and found a bit more about these notes. El Banco Espanol de la Havana began issuing notes in 1857 for use in Cuba, only. 1 Peso = 8 Reales. The series pictured here, were the only series of notes produced after the name change for the bank to El Banco Espanol de la Isla de Cuba. After the war, new notes were issued by the Banco National de Cuba in 1905.

Wikipedia often has a lot of valuable information on notes and coins.

Thanks for the information everyone and thanks ElleKitty for sharing the picture of the one peso note! This makes me want to rush back to the coin store to see what other interesting notes they have around. They get different stuff in all the time and I didn't even get to look through all of the stuff last time. Hopefully I'll make it back in this week!
