I think this is from the reign of John and have it marked as S-1354, but I'm not 100%. Anyone care to weigh in with their thoughts. Tough when you only have half a coin!

It certainly is a difficult one. You must have a newer issue because #1354 is Henry III for me.
Would agree that it is most likely a class 5 one from John, but can't discount class 3b from Richard I.

2013 Spink has S-1534 under John. I don't think it's Richard because of the type of 'X' to the left of the portrait, that style fits more into John or Henry III, but I ruled out Henry III because of the stop after the S before the R, which lines up with S-1354. By chance what does your ref's 1354 detail in terms of the stop after the S before the R? The only other one that has a stop in that position is S-1344 but I ruled that out as well.

At least I can make out that it's from the London Mint, however the moneyer will remain a mystery.

As said, I have an older issue, that's why I mentioned classes rather than numbers.
Unfortunately the image of class 3b shown in my issue has the bottom part blundered, so I cannot make a comment on the stop between the S and the R. Otherwise it is only the class 5 ones which match the visible part of the portrait. While nice to know the mint, unfortunately London has been used by all, so is no help in narrowing it down.

Btw, my issue is the 20th edition from 1987.
