Apparently a month ago Zimbabwe came out with new coinage. For the not informed due to hyper inflation the Zims stopped printing money after their famous 100 trillion dollar bill which later became a popular collectors item. Will these new Zim coins be the next rage?

I think lollipops, chewing gum and pens would be a more practical small change currency for Zimbabwe, and apparently, the country's residents think so as well.

Hopefully, sometime in the not too distant future, things will be better for Zimbabwe after Mugabe dies. I also hope that the post Mugabe power vacuum does not lead to violence.

Ironic I come across this thread as soon as I'm done perusing through the latest #MugabeFalls.

Zimbabwe-Bond-Coins

Perhaps it's an omen for the currency? :-)

I'd heard they'd tried to introduced them, but hadn't seen any actual pictures of them until now.

They were having a shortage of change a couple of years back. And as I understand it we sent a container ship over there full of US change. Maybe they need more change? Or they don't want US change? There were giving out pencils gum and candy as change at one point

I bet those suckers feel like cheap poker chips

I actually saw the poor things on Numista yesterday (I think I wanted to find if there were any Zimbabwean coins issued for the intermediate dollars).
For a few minutes I was sure they were some kind of fantasy tokens that somehow found their way on the regular country page. Apparently not... they still look weird (as if "Bond Coin" is some kind of a new crypto-currency).

I've heard of Zimbabwe's change problem long ago though... didn't know there was nothing done about it until so recently.
