I've been seeing this error message a lot lately. After waiting and waiting for the usually quick pages to load, this appears:
quote:
Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0113'

Script timed out

/forum/search.asp {this part changes, depending on the page being loaded}

The maximum amount of time for a script to execute was exceeded. You can change this limit by specifying a new value for the property Server.ScriptTimeout or by changing the value in the IIS administration tools.

It's happened virtually every time I try to do a forum search for old/archived threads lately, and earlier this evening it did the same thing right on the Forum homepage!

Since I don't have the faintest idea what "changing the value in the IIS administration tools" means, I thought I'd try having a whinge here first and see if that fixes the problem.

Running Firefox under Windows XP, if it makes a difference.

The server had some problems, yesterday evening. Search timeouts are another issue.

I have done a few forum searches and everything seemed to work out o.k. until I tried to click on a link to view a thread. Nothing happened. Zip. I am not good with computers (read seriously deficient) so I only have a feeling that what I experienced is similar to what has already been described. Just thought I would add this for the computer folks to let them know what is going on.

Maybe you have a popup blocker and didn't notice that it was blocking the opening of search result pages?

I saw the announcement about the modified search algorithms. Many thanks Bobby and Rui - it doesn't hang so much.

Still noticed a couple of glitches in a recent forum-wide search (searching for "New Zealand" with archive box ticked).

1. It came up with four pages of hits - great! - but the page selector was only found on the bottom of Page 1, and not on the other three pages. Unless it was hiding...

2. The search only worked with "Match exact phrase" checked. When I tried it with "Search for all Words", it found nothing - when it should, I guess, have found much the same number of hits (since "Zealand" rarely if ever occurs here without "New" in front of it). The "Exact Match, No Short Words" was checked - whatever that means (see query #3 below). I switched to the other option, and 7 pages of hits popped up.

3. There's a little smilie-thingy next to the "Exact Match, No Short Words" option. Click on it, and a little help screen pops up. Only, the help screen is empty?

Nah. I'd noticed the search performing differently over the past few months, and reckoned you were still tinkering with it in your spare time.

Thanks for your efforts.
