I was wondering about the 1881 NEWFOUNDLAND 50 CENT coin's REVERSE ORIENTATION. When I flip it over (top to bottom) the reverse is right side up, similar to a U.S. coin. Most Canadian coins would show the reverse upside down when you do this. Is this the way that these coins were minted?
I am not 100% sure, I just checked on the coinsandcanada website, but there is no indication. I do know that some if not all of our early coinage was struck as you mention, so I would not be surprised if this is the correct orientation.
