Hi Folks, every few years I buy a new Red Book. I just received my 2006 59th Edition and it is better than ever. They are tons of color photo's, higher quality paper, even better text and contributions by almost everybody you can think of in numismatics! IMO, this is the best dollar for dollar reference book on American Coins that you can buy. There are Bigger and Better Books out there, but not for less than $15.00. The spiral bound "lay flat" pages are just another bonus! Mike

I love the Red Book- I've killed many an hour drooling over the pictures. I used to have a small collection of older ones that belonged to my Grandfather. Have to do some digging at my parents' house, I hope they still have them there somewhere. Dad usually buys me the new one every other year or so for a stocking stuffer!

I just received a new Red Book the other day too. My last one was in 1996. I opted for the spiral bound version too...I visualized myself at coin shows holding the book flat and folded back and thought it might make things a little easier. Now that I have it I've found it takes a little getting used to. I kinda wished I'd gotten the hard bound copy because it seems a little stronger. You have to be a little more delicate with this one, but maybe I'll get used to it. One thing I did notice...if the government keeps putting out so many new commems it won't be long til the Red Book will be in 2 volumes!

I've used the hardback and spiral bound and I love the spiral. You are right that it doesn't hold up as well as the hardbound, but I love being able to use it "hands-free". I also replace mine every year. I can honestly say that, even with a lot of use, it should last at least a year.

I will have to agree with Mike and Susan on this one. The 2006 RedBook is the best yet and the spiral bound, which I have been buying since they started offering it, is worth every penny as I am not fighting the book constantly to keep it open!

I purchased one for a customer and took a quick peak through it, and I for one was not impressed. The color columns seperating prices was a bit distracting. I did not read it through, but highlighted a few of the new items, and it seemed like quite a bit of fluff. I guess that by making the Red Book more generic, it forces people to purchase the "series" Red Books.

I have the 2005 and I've been debating whether to buy the 2006 or not. I've heard 2006 is better. So there's a big difference from last year to this year?

Personally, I feel that getting the 2006 book is well worth it. There are many improvements. The sections are now color-coded. There is more information on the gold coins (including grading points, though I feel they may be more lax than I prefer). There are also more and better pics. I think this is a super value for under $15.
Email me if you are interested in one.
