I was just looking for a few opinions on the authenticity of the piece. I'm interested in purchasing, seller seems legitimate but I'm a bit skeptical about the coin itself. The dark toning, coupled with the crude design and lack of wear make me suspect a counterfeit. Maybe my suspicions are misplaced though, the seller does have 100% feedback over hundreds of sales of similar coins. Greek silver isn't really my forte.

Can any of the experts weigh in on this?

I am immediately concerned with the coin for reasons you stated.

I see what appears to be casting pearls on the obverse right field and the reverse left field. There are more but those are those are the most prominent.

Unfortunately feedback on coin sellers on ebay can only alert you to a bad seller, it can't tell you if one is actually good. Many people never realize they bought a fake coin, and those that do usually agree not to leave feedback for a refund. I've even seen reports of sellers threatening to sue someone for negative feedback! Sometimes when someone gets some they'll move on to a new user ID on ebay and continue.

Definitely check the "notorious fake sellers list" for anyone you plan on buying from, and it was a great instinct to check on here before buying also.

I'm certainly no expert on counterfeit ancient coins, but this one looks funny even to me.

I agree, casting pearls and general overall appearance says fake to me also.

Appreciate the help. I really dodged a bullet there. My first suspicions was how cheap the coin was, an EF, well centered Alexander Tet should be quite a bit more expensive than this one.
Here's the listing if anyone is interested: http://www.ebay.com/itm/16159912988...RK:MEBIDX:IT
I've reported the item and blocked the seller, however, what still bothers me is that the other coins he has for sale all seem to be real. Several are ANACS and PCGS certified and other have an original patina and strike pattern that would be very hard to counterfeit and not really worth it, cost wise. So my question is, is the seller aware that he is selling a fake? Maybe he legitimately doesn't know? Or maybe he's trying to hide a higher-priced fake among a bunch of lower priced originals? Either way, the coin itself is a very good quality copy, not something you could purchase for a few dollars from aliexpress.

No way to know if he knows or not, but if he thinks it's real, why the lowball buy it now price? Could also be that he honestly is so used to saying that coins are "guaranteed authentic" in his descriptions that he forgot to note that this one is a replica. I hate to always assume the worst about someone.

Did any of you notice that the reverse of the coin looks unnaturally flat - too flat? The coins surface also bugs me a bit. I don't know ancients that well, but it reminds me of a professionally cleaned and recolored coin. Looks spraypainted.
