This morning I was paying a bill in the bank when a very angry man walked up to next counter. He flung down a coin and asked the teller to change it. She politely told him she couldn't. The 'customer' was furious and said that, as this was a bank, they should be able to change it. The teller asked if he'd tried at the Post Office. He said that he had, but they'd sent him there. He seemed to be on the verge of becoming abusive.
I was just finishing my business and decided to intervene. I asked if I could see the coin, and, on discovering it was a 2-euro piece, I offered the man £1.30 for it. He accepted gladly, and left the bank a happy man. I also left the bank a happy man, in possession of a nice German 2013 Baden-Wurttemberg commemorative 2-euros, which was actually one of the coins on my Wants List!
