Hi

I have been looking around at most of the major auction houses and have been unable to find a coin finer than the one below for the Price 232 type.
Finest-Known?
Finest-Known?

Just wanted to find out if anyone else here has found a coin in either a similar or better condition.

Also the above mentioned coin has sold 4 times (2xCNG and 2xHeritage) in the past four years. Would anyone have any idea why?

Thanks

I can only assume the quick flips were attempts to turn quick profits. I believe this is it:

https://cngcoins.com/Bid.aspx?Item_ID=182166

Sold for 4,600 CHF on an estimate of 3,000 in a Nomos sale...I don't know if that pre-auction estimate was realistic or intentionally undervalued...

Sometimes auctioneers put the lowest possible reasonable estimate on a lot, simply to attract more bids.

Good extremely fine. - CNG 2011
Superb Extremely Fine. - HA 2014
Mint State --- NGC graded sold by Heritage Auctions 2015

It's condition is improving quickly, even though it sold for the most at CNG then less the second time and even less the third time

Good EF and Superb EF are different grades however they are unfortunately used interchangeably depending on which firm is selling the coin. In terms of the NGC grading of the coin, the MS grade is due to "Market Grading" rather than "Technical Grading" primarily attributable to the fine style of the piece and the light toning being taken into account.

By the way has anyone found a coin that is finer?

Lots of extra factors come into the grading of an ancient coin besides wear.

This coin is an outstanding example of a Posthumous Alexander III tet and would be an excellent addition to any collection. I suspect that the price is going to reflect it's condition and it's not going to be a cheap coin. But if it's something you can afford, I don't think you are going to find a much better example.
