So a few months back I completed my 20th century type set which I just have in a generic Whitman folder. Nothing in it is too valuable or high grade, the most I spent on any coin in it was 25 bucks.

I've recently decided to start upgrading it, and my first purchase was an MS-65 (NGC) 1943 Steel Cent. I decided to start buying slabbed ones to upgrade as I want to make sure everything I am getting is genuine and problem free. I had initially planned on just breaking them out of the slabs and sticking them in the folder when I got them, but now I am reconsidering.

I kinda like having the coin in the slab as it keeps it well protected, and adds to it's resale value if I ever decide to sell in the future. So I ask, should I just break them out anyway and put them in folders, or is there a good way to display a slabbed type set? I would really like to decide how to proceed before I buy any more slabbed coins. Any advice would be appreciated.

There are boxes that can hold stabbed coins, but I'm not sure they are what you are looking for

There are a large number of clear pages out there designed to hold TPG slabs and fit into a 3-ring binder.

A good suggestion from SsDd and for your raw coins you can buy Lighthouse brand holders with blank labels.

Not sure why you don't just make an Album using those 20 pocket pages that hold 2x2's. Then you could make your own Type set anyway you like and display it any way you want. I do suggest if you are really using FOLDERS, stop and get rid of those. An Album or anything is better than a Folder.

I would not crack a slab to put a coin in a folder, but I would (and will eventually) crack one to put the coin in an album.

That being said, you should consider keeping the coin in the slab, at least until you decide what type of album to use (whether one for just the coin or one to hold the slabbed coin).

you could always buy the slabbed coin, and use your current coin as filler/proxy. Not much point to this, but it allows you to have the upgrade while still keeping it in a slab.

Or buy a display case to show of your collection of slab coins.
