Does anybody else think that the open fields on this coin might make bag marks and any other dings or scrapes really noticeable

The bag marks will be real noticeable. You won't see too many MS67's out there, unless SGS is grading it. Then it would be an MS70.

Most of my childhood was spent in Wyoming. I suppose they could have gone for fancier designs, but the choice of the bucking horse is a safe choice. It's a well-established icon for the state, perhaps the strongest of all state icons.

The UW athletics site has a nice discussion of the two variations of the bucking horse image:

http://wyomingathletics.cstv.com/tr...eamboat.html

The coin depiction should be of horse named "Deadman" rather than "Steamboat" since the coin matches the license plate image.

Other things I would have liked to have seen on the Wyoming quarter:

Nellie Tayloe Ross, especially since she was the first female director of the U.S. Mint.
Fort Laramie, which is more specific to Wyoming than the Oregon Trail
The Teton Range, even though most of the people who live within sight of it are transplanted millionaires.

I think it would have been better with detail rather than just a silhouette.

I kind of like it. You know what they say, all the REAL cowboys come from Wyoming...
Rest in Peace

I have gotten a few here in New Mexico ,, I think they are a bit bland and lifeless ,,the design has no real merit , and they are at this time my least favorite of all the SQ designs .

In fact they remind me of the many trips through wyoming that I have made in my life time,, great big empty and without attraction .

PS the only small piece of enjoyment was found in Little America .

I have to agree with 7070. It needs some detail!
