I grabbed a few of the Wyoming quarters at the bank today and I was stunned by how horrible the reverse is! I can't believe this is the best they could come up with. Easily the worst design on any of the quarters I have seen so far.

Here's a pic. I think the best State Quarter designs happened when the citizens of the state were involved in the design process, and in the selection of the design.

I got my first one in change a few days after the release in change from the coin shop. Usually I can't seem to find them. What does the cowboy have to do with anything? I know that for the Utah quarter they allowed the citizens to vote for their favorite out of three potential designs. The Utah design actually has some history behind it.

This is definitely the most bleh State Quarter I've seen yet. I picked up one of each P & D mints, and frankly I may leave it at that. The Presidential dollars are prettier than this poor, sad specimen.

Well I can tell none of you have ever been to Wyoming. "What does the cowboy have to do with anything?" That image is plastered all over the state, no other design screams Wyoming like that image does. And speaking of the image, there never has been any detail on the design and there never will be. It is what it is. That is the perfect image for that state.

quote: What does the cowboy have to do with anything?
Have you ever seen a Wyoming license plate? Image Insert: It is like a state symbol. I like it , although I wish the cowboy had more detail.

I will need to side with Becky and 7070 on this one. Not because of the fact that the cowboy is a well known "mascot" for lack of a better word for Wyoming, but from it's sheer minimalistic design and huge open fields. I love the clean and open field on the reverse and I only wish more coins would share a little minimalism like this reverse does. If you want a lot of design "busy-ness", buy a commemorative(which I like as well ).

thats what happens with the least populated state in the country. my county has twice as many people than that entire state.

I haven't seen one in circulation yet. I recently purchased a silver proof set and have seen the proof version. I really don't care for this one.

I don't think it does the state justice, but there is no doubt which state it represents. At least they didn't put an outline of the state on this one!

I not putting down Wyomingites, cowboys, or minimalism. When I think of Wyoming I think of the Rockies, the high plains, Old faithful, The Oregon trail, etc. This coin is so drab I honestly thought that it was either a weak strike or perhaps struck grease. It seems like more thought was put into the license plate than the State Quarter! The artwork submitted by children has more artistic merit. Speaking of the Oregon Trail, compare the commemorative half(either side) to this coin.

Does anybody else think that the open fields on this coin might make bag marks and any other dings or scrapes really noticeable. Ten years from now it might make this coin hard to find with a real clear field. I think I might have to keep a couple rolls of these...just in case.
