Anyone ever seen one? I found one on ebay, the pictures arent the greatest so I am skeptical to say the least, I checked a few sources and they only mention the 1955/56 & 58 so either this is a one off of its not what it appears to be... any comments welcome

I just checked Breen and there is no reference to a Doubled Die for the 1957-D. Can you post a link to the auction or links to the pics?

There are lot's of actual double die's but not all are recomgnized. I spoke with PCGS about a year ago about a 1943-s triple die, There was no doubt about it, They informed me that it probably was, but not all double die's are not double die's(they lost me here} They said the coin must have stuck to the die, and got stamped again. Which I thought would be double die. But in fact. The die had to be double die, not the coin being stamped numerous time's.

There are no listings for it. It could be Mechanical Doubling, which is much different than true doubling.

The pics are poor at best, but in my opinion that is Strike Doubling and adds no value to the coin !!!

I believe it's Machine Doubling and, as Metalman said, does not add value to the coin. If you can get out of purchasing this, I would if I were you.

I just noticed that Wexler has some doubled die obverse 1957 D's for sale on ebay. He is talking about a doubled eyelid though. Unfortunately, he doesn't show scans of these particular items since he's selling them rather cheaply. If he says they're real though I believe him. I think Wexler knows of doubled dies for every Lincoln Cent date ever struck! But, some are almost microscopic and not much in demand. This particular one that we have been talking about looks like Strike Doubling to me too, though the picture is pretty dark.
