I believe it is a security feature, to keep spambots from gathering website data, just like we aren't allowed to post our email addresses, phone numbers, etc.

I'm sure Forum Mom or Dad could explain better, in more detail.

Ah, now the URL in the first post looks fine. Maybe the "culprit" was that double https://www.cnb.cz in the address ...

The link works for me; it's pointing to the same site you indicate in your picture. I see a Czech 50 years of Sputnik coin on a Czech website.

If you're referring to the abbreviation (like "/numis...druzice.html"), that's just to stop super-long URLs from stretching the screen out horizontally, and making people scroll back and forth to read sentences. They've set the forum up to do that automatically for any URL over a certain length. (just like it automatically shrinks pictures above a certain size).

That is perfectly OK. My problem was that - when I copied the URL from the CNB web site and posted it here https://goccf.com/t/19795 - the URL was somehow modified. This is what I copied ...

... and this is what it was changed to; now neither of the two parts is a clickable link):

I know that this "www.cnb.cz/www.cnb.cz" is odd, and maybe is a glitch on their site since the URL seems to work fine with just one "www.cnb.cz". (If anybody wants to try it out, have a look at this page http://www.cnb.cz/cz/platidla/numismatika/ and move the cursor across any of the links in the three Numismatika sections. See the double domain name?)

Regardless of that, shouldn't the forum software just happily accept the address that I pasted?

Oh, and -- while I'm kind of curious as to why this happened, don't spend too much time "investigating". Not really worth it; let's do coins instead.

No it won't. It was an improperly structured url. The forum software has many security features that will block certain things to prevent hackers from running malicious scripts.

Also there are several website links that are banned and cannot be posted here. Unfortunately there are a couple of good ones, but they decided to spam this board hard at one point and I refuse to allow sites that use these nasty tactics to be advertised here.

Makes sense. Well, in this case it was a URL from the central bank's website, but it did indeed look a little strange. Thanks for the explanation!
